Roger Volodarsky founded Puffco in 2013. Roger was inspired to start Puffco during the early days of cannabis vape cartridges. It was during this time that he fell in love with this new discreet method of cannabis consumption. However, as a designer and engineer, Robert knew that this current vaporization method could be vastly improved. Thus, Puffco was born. Puffco’s first product to hit the market with the Puffco Pro, now called the Puffco Plus. This initial success led to Puffco expanding their product line to include the Puffco Peak, Puffco Proxy, Puffco Hot Knife, and more!
At Puffco, their mission is to provide the best possible platform for consumption. They saw that the quality of extracts has evolved over time, but the devices used to consume them couldn’t keep up. As a result, they wanted to provide more than the industry standard could. Since then, Puffco has been the leader in the e-vaporizer market and continues to innovate and improve their products.
Puffco Plus
The Puffco Plus began as the Puffco Pro and was the company’s first product to hit the market back in 2014. This portable dab pen is designed with porous ceramic as opposed to the fibers typically used to soak up oil. As a result, the Pro delivers significantly improved flavor and a more friendly experience on your lungs. This portable dab pen functions the same as most other pens you’ll find on the market, but has certain features that put it on top of the rest. Like other pens, the Puffco Plus consists of a battery, chamber, and mouthpiece as well as a button to control everything.
How it works
In contrast to other pens on the market that have just one temperature setting, the Puffco Plus has three. To adjust the temperature on the Puffco Plus, you simply click the button four times. Green indicates low heat, blue indicates medium heat, and white indicates high heat. When you take the mouthpiece off of the top of the chamber, you’ll see a white piece that sticks out called the “dart”. This dart is the built in dab tool that you can use to load your chamber. Having this feature is extremely convenient, as it allows you to travel with your Puffco Plus without the worry of needing to bring an additional tool along.
When it comes time to vape, this device makes the process super simple. Just load your dab into the chamber with the dart, turn on the battery, choose your temperature, then press and hold the button down and draw. There is also a “Sesh” mode that can be activated by clicking the button twice. In Sesh mode, the Puffco Plus stays continuously heated for 12 seconds without the need to hold the button down.
Puffco Peak
After the release and success of the Puffco Plus, Robert wanted to go bigger. He has stated, “One of the biggest parts of the hash and dab scene in glass. We’re not here to compete with glass artists – we’re here to work with them. We want them to see us as a platform to express their creativity.” As a result, after months of development with his team, Robert invented the first fully-electronic portable dab rig, the Puffco Peak.
The Puffco Peak was designed with both beginners and seasoned dab consumers in mind. As soon as you open up your new Puffco Peak it’s ready to go. That being said, they recommend giving it a full charge before your first use. Once fully charged, remove the glass attachment and fill it with water just above the two air holes. Once you’ve done that, reattach the glass piece to the base. Then, press and hold the button on the Puffco Peak for 3-5 seconds. Now the device is on and ready to go, load the bottom of the bowl with your dab. Next, place the carb cap on top of the atomizer and double click the button the begin heating your dab. Once your Puffco Peak flashes three times it’s ready to go.
The Puffco Peak delivers the ultimate dabbing experience. With the ability to choose between four heat settings, the experience is highly customizable. The battery also offers about 30 dabs per charge.
Puffco Peak Pro
Still seeking to innovative his designs, Robert got back to the lab reached even higher peaks with the Puffco Peak Pro. The main difference between this version and the original is that the Puffco Peak Pro is much more customizable. That difference lies primarily in the ability to pair your Puffco Peak Pro with the Puffco App. With the app, users are able to set dozens of custom temperature settings including custom colors. It also has a live readout of the current temperature of your device along with how many sessions you have completed in a day. In addition to more customizability, the bowl of the Puffco Peak Pro is 40% larger than that of the original Puffco Peak. As a result, you can take much larger dabs with the Peak Pro.
The New Peak Pro
As of 2023, the Puffco Peak Pro has gotten an upgrade. To begin with, the new Peak Pro comes at a cheaper price point thanks to the 3D chamber and new joystick cap being included in the price at $420. While the original was technically only $400 for the base, the essential 3D chamber was $75 while the ball cap was $30, totaling $505 for the complete set-up. In addition, the new included joystick cap takes the dabbing experience up a level. This new joystick cap allows for precision airflow, improved functionality, and is super durable.
As for the new glass, it comes with 5 laser cut precision perc slots for supreme airflow. As for the app, get ready for customization galore. Through the app, you can customize the temperature, time, and even vapor volume of your dabs. In addition, the app provides insightful information after each sesh like your total dab count, average temperature, and average time. A fun little bonus feature is the new custom mood lights to up the aesthetic of your dabbing experience.
Puffco Proxy
The Puffco Proxy was Robert’s next big innovation in the e-rig scene. The Proxy is unique because the atomizer itself is a separate free-standing device. As it comes, the Puffco Proxy looks like a classic old tobacco pipe like the one Sherlock Holmes is famously depicted with. That being said, the atomizer can be removed from its original casing and placed into any smoking apparatus as long as it features the appropriate sized hole.
This was done with the hopes of inspiring glass makers to create pieces of their own to house the atomizer. As Robert states, “We’re big fans of the glass scene. Hash and glass have grown together over the past decade, and we want to honor that space by continuing to invest in it.” This atomizer features a 3D ceramic coil that heats your dab from all direction. In contrast, traditional coils only heat from the bottom leading to a very unevenly temped dab. Thanks to this new technology, the Puffco Proxy promises a smooth even smoke every time.
Hot Knife
Say goodbye to stickiness with Puffco’s sleek and sturdy Hot Knife. The Hot Knife is a USB-C rechargeable dab loading tool with a ceramic tip that heats at the push of a button. That means no more having to worry about dirty dab tools, sticky fingers, or fuzz particles in your bowl. Just scoop your extract, hold the button down and watch the extract drop off. Loading a dab has never been more satisfying.
Puffco Budsy & Cupsy
Departing a bit from their main line of products, the Budsy and Cupsy offer a discreet way to enjoy cannabis flower on the go. The Budsy and Cupsy respectively look like a water-bottle and hot coffee cup. As a result, you can travel incognito with these little guys. While these aren’t meant to be used with extracts and are fairly low tech, we still love the creative and discreet design nonetheless.
