The Drops team started as farmers in Oregon. After 26 years of growing wine grapes in the Willamette Valley, they started their weed growing journey in 2016. Their farming practices are modeled after those on their vineyard, emphasizing sustainability and quality. As they continue to expand beyond their home state of Oregon, they partner with farmers who share the same principles and practices. As a result, they’re able to provide consistent products across all of the states they’re available in.
Growing Practices
Their farming philosophy involves a bustling ecosystem in their soils. Here, microbes can break down organic fertilizers while beneficial bugs protect their plants from pests. To avoid disturbing soil habitats, they layer rather than till. They also plant cover crops to provide new habitats, nutrients, and aeration. All of their fertilizers are naturally derived, as well as their pest and disease control. They prevent pests and diseases with chicken manure, compost tea, and essential oils such as cinnamon. Additionally, routine soil and leaf samples are sent for lab analysis to determine exactly which nutrients they are lacking. Each strain has its own unique nutrient needs, which is why they test leaf samples for every strain in their field. Then, they design individual fertilizing regimens to fit the needs of each strain.
Drops also grows their source material outdoors, by the light of the sun. Outdoor farming has numerous benefits, including reduced carbon emissions and lower costs compared to indoor grows. This allows them to farm sustainably and offer premium products at affordable prices. Exposure to the outdoors encourages plants to build up their defenses. Trunks grow strong to withstand variable winds, and plants produce terpenes as a way to fend off pests and disease. Sunlight also contains a broader spectrum of rays than grow lights. Additionally, since the sun is a distant light source, its energy is distributed evenly, encouraging bud development across the whole plant.
Harvest Process
Upon harvest, they de-leaf their weed, flash-freeze it, and then process it into live rosin. Using dry ice, their weed is frozen within minutes, then stored at -20˚F until the time of extraction. Flash-freezing prevents plant material from decomposing and preserves terpenes that evaporate during traditional drying and curing processes. As a result, they can produce high-quality, full-spectrum live rosin.
Recipe
Drops is more than just a mouthwatering candy. It is a collection of experiences made possible by their key ingredient – live rosin. As a full-spectrum concentrate, live rosin preserves the full array of psychoactive compounds that make each strain unique. Each of Drops’ flavors is strain-specific, so you can choose the experience that’s right for you. When selecting their strains, they seek out the widest variety of effects possible.
The base ingredients in Drops are cane sugar, light corn syrup, pectin, and citric acid. The combination of cane sugar and light corn syrup prevents the sugar from recrystallizing, while pectin is a vegan alternative to gelatin that gives drops their delicate texture. The citric acid activates the pectin and makes certain flavors bright and tangy. Finally, fruit extracts and essential oils give the gummies their flavor, while plant-based options like beet juice, spirulina, annatto, and turmeric give them their color.
Product
Each tin of Drops is made from steel – one of the only materials that can be recycled indefinitely. This means you can recycle them when you’re done, but they also make great containers for tiny items around the house. Their Classic THC Drops include options like “Dreamy” Cherry, “Balanced” Lime, “Active” Lemon, “Creative” Orange, and “Chill” Watermelon. These flavors deliver 5mg of THC per gummy, with specific strains infused into each flavor to deliver the desired effects. Drops also has Enhanced CBD options. These flavors include “Lifted” Strawberry, “Comfort” Blueberry, “Heavy” Blackberry, “Daydreamy” Cranberry, and “Rosy” Raspberry. Each of these flavors delivers a small 1mg spike of THC per gummy alongside 10mg of CBD.
