Pride month is almost upon us which means it’s time to celebrate love, unity, and community in New Mexico! This pride season, there is no shortage of fun to be had with various celebrations taking place throughout the month of June. So, if you’re looking for exciting ways to celebrate pride in New Mexico, keep reading!
Albuquerque
Pride Fest 2024
During this New Mexico Pride season, prepare for a whole week of celebration at Pride Fest 2024! From June 3rd-9th, Pride Fest 2024 has an incredible lineup of events for everyone to enjoy and celebrate pride.
Silverfest
On Monday, June 3rd, get ready to celebrate Silverfest! This event celebrates the 55+ community and is an all-ages event. There will be plenty of food, fun, games, karaoke, and entertainment to kick off the Pride Fest Week. Silverfest will take place at The Orpheum Community Hub at 500 2nd St. from 4 pm to 7 pm.
Kids Fest
Afterward on Tuesday, June 4th, is Kids Fest. This event is a celebration for the youth and is another all-ages event. Here, you can expect food, fun, games, storytime, and entertainment. This event will also be held at The Orpheum Community Hub at 500 2nd St. from 6 pm to 8 pm.
She + Fest
The following day Wednesday, June 5th, is the She + Fest. This event is a celebration of femininity and is a 21+ only event. She + Fest will feature performances, poetry, food, music, and education. This is another event that will be held at The Orpheum Community Hub at 500 2nd St. from 6 pm to 8pm.
Pride Memorial Candlelight Vigil
Moving along to Thursday, June 6th, there will be a Pride Memorial Candlelight Vigil. This event is a yearly tradition of remembering lost loved ones with speeches from community members and titleholders. This event is being held at the site of the first pride in Albuquerque: Morningside Park at 3901 Lead Ave. from 7 pm to 9 pm.
Pre-fest
On Friday, June 7th, Pre-fest will kick off! This is a free event for all ages. Head to Balloon Fiesta Park (5500 Ballon Fiesta Pkwy) to enjoy music, exhibitors, food, an open mic, an outdoor art show, dancing, and various educational events. This event will take place from 5 pm to 8 pm.
Albuquerque Pride Parade
The following day Saturday, June 8th, the Albuquerque Pride Parade will officially take off! The parade begins at 10 am on Historic Route 66. The route starts on Central and Gereard east to Central and San Mateo. Get ready for one of Albuquerque’s largest parades!
New Mexico Pride Fest
Following the Albuquerque Pride Parade, again on Saturday, June 8th, is the New Mexico Pride Fest! This year’s Pride theme is Gather, Dream, Amplify. This event will feature music, exhibitors, food, entertainment, food, drag performances, dancing, and educational events. The festivities will finish off with a nighttime balloon glow, with collectible balloon pins available for patrons. This event will take place at Balloon Fiesta Park at 5500 Balloon Fiesta Pkwy. with gates opening at 3 pm.
BIPOC Brunch
Finally, pride week will finish off with BIPOC Brunch. This is an event celebrating Black, Indigenous, People of Color. More details about this event will be at www.abqpride.com as they become available.
Las Cruces
LGBTQIA+ Pride Kick-Off Hike
To kick off pride month in Las Cruces, PFLAG, Friends of the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks, and La Vida Project/Outdoor Legacy Project are hosting a hike to Slot Canyon. This is a free event with snacks, water, and sunscreen provided for the hike. Attendees will meet up at 5:30 pm at the Save Mart Parking lot at 495 N. Valley Dr.
Pride Movie Night
On Friday, June 7th, PFLAG Las Cruces will be hosting Pride Movie Night at the Rio Grande Theatre with a showing of “Matt Shepard is a Friend of Mine”. This documentary revisits the historic tragedy around Matthew Shepard’s death and his legacy in shaping the future of services and safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ Youth. Following this movie screening, there will be an intergenerational panel. This event starts at 6 pm, with doors open at 5 pm.
Family Picnic w/ Doña Ana Communities United & PFLAG
Another great pride event takes place on Saturday, June 29th at 9 am. This June get-together is a special edition collaboration between PFLAG and Doña Ana Communities United. Head to Preciado Park at NMSU to enjoy a delightful family picnic. Indulge in a variety of picnic foods and enjoy family-friendly fun activities. This event is sure to be a memorable day filled with love, laughter, and community.
