Cinder Community Gala with UIC
Unity in the Community is a community resource project that strives to unite people of the Pacific Northwest through the education of cultural diversity. Based in Spokane, Washington and running for 24 years, Unity in the Community hosts a yearly Multi-Cultural Celebration in downtown Spokane, WA at Riverfront Park. The event consists of live performances, food, senior resources but most notably, it has the cultural village. bo
What’s in the cultural village?
People from specific culture groups come together to design a booth for their heritage. For example, you can walk through and find the Hawaiian booth. Here, you could learn how to hula dance. Walk further in and you might find a booth from Mexico that might teach you a few Spanish phrases. Maybe you’ll be able to find a dragon doing the Dragon Dance at a Chinese booth. Kids are given passports that they can take to each booth to collect stamps and once they have received stamps from every country, they can exchange their passport for a bag full of school supplies.
Cinder has been inspired by the mission of Unity in the Community and has been involved with the project in multiple ways. In 2019, we ran a backpack drive to receive donations of school supplies to help fill the backpacks to give away at the Multi-Cultural Celebration. We were able to donate these to UIC and help fill and prepare over 1,000 backpacks that were donated by STCU. After the event at the park ended, we helped tear everything down and put all the equipment away.
We love Unity in the Community!
Most recently, Cinder hosted a community Gala to raise donations for Unity in the Community. In October 2019, we held a black-tie event to help raise money for the organization. The event had live music, food and drinks, a raffle and more. By the end of the night, we raised over $3,000 while being able to connect with and give back to the community.
