4/20/20 is over and I’m sure a lot of you are still feeling hazy after smoking up all your holiday purchases, right? Nobody knew what to expect for 420 in 2020 amid the COVID-19 crisis. It ended up being business as usual and business was great! Cinder continued to practice social distancing for this year’s 420 and took precautions to make sure that all our customers would stay safe while still having a good experience.
Corona & 420
Corona or not, 4/20 is always a crazy day for anyone who works in a dispensary. You wake up that day anticipating mayhem and nonstop action. You can already see in your head, a line of customers going out the door before you even get to work. It’s a fast paced day that requires a lot of customer service and organization.
If you came to visit us on 420, you may have noticed how our customer service and line support was well kept up with. That is because everyone had detailed schedules that let them know when breaks and lunches were and where everyone could stand so the workflow could be efficient and safe.
April 20th is a popular holiday within the cannabis community. The industry, as a whole, does a lot of preparation in the weeks leading up to the big day.
Cinder always does daily deals leading up to 420, but this year we took it a step further and did daily deals for the whole month leading up to the day. We did this to encourage people to shop and stock up early to avoid the crowd that we knew would be inevitable and still get their deals. We made sure our inventory was well stocked so that everyone would be able to get what they need.
Being a Budtender
As a budtender, I worked from 10am to 6pm at our Spokane Valley location. Prime time hours. The team and I witnessed a constant stream of customers coming in and waiting outside our store. We didn’t know what to expect with how busy it would be because of COVID-19. It was exciting to see that business was still booming. It was so busy all day long with helping our customers who ordered online, customers who wanted to use our curbside pickup service, and customers that just wanted to come in and see what we got.
I am very grateful to be a part of the Cinder team because my coworkers are so great to work next to. We had fun all day and although it was super busy, everything went very smoothly thanks to our managers who had every detail planned out. Amber Morrison, a budtender from the valley store, handmade masks for everyone in the company so we can wear them to protect ourselves. All in all, the day was so much fun and there’s nothing like experiencing a 420 for the first time as a budtender. I was also very grateful to our customers who were patient with us and thanked us for continuing to work as essential workers. Can’t wait for next year!
