The clouds are gone, the sun is shining and it’s starting to feel like summer. But with the stay-at-home order in Washington state still being enforced, it doesn’t really feel like there’s anything to do these days. With quarantine going on, how do we enjoy the sunshine and stay connected with friends during COVID-19?

Netflix Party

You don’t need to be in the same room as your friends to enjoy a movie together. Netflix has a chrome extension called Netflix Party that you can download to share screens with a friend. While watching media through Netflix Party, anyone on the link has the ability to pause, mute or rewind. It also includes a chat screen so that you and your friends can talk about what you’re watching as you’re watching it.

Hiking or picnics

Most businesses are closed but that doesn’t mean you have to stay stuck at home all day, everyday. If you’re wondering how to enjoy the sunshine right now, try hiking a new trail or planning a small picnic to get a little bit of sun during the lockdown. However, while you’re doing this, remember to be as careful as you can by bringing masks, sanitizers, and by keeping your group to less than 5 people. As long as you’re being safe, mindful and keeping a safe distance, there will still be ways to get outside to take in the fresh air and sunshine.

Learn how to rollerskate, skateboard or longboard

Make your time outside productive and pick up a new hobby. The weather is warm and the streets are dry and empty so there’s no better time to learn how to skate or hone your already existing skating skills. Practice in an empty parking garage or ride the trails at Riverfront Park or Kendall Yards so that by the time summer is over, you’ll have a whole new skill under your resume.
